The 38th Annual Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, July 13, 2024. It was a huge success, with over 450 registered participants.

This event is an annual fundraiser which benefits abused and neglected children through the Northern Hills Area CASA Program.

HALF MARATHON - 7AM START
The HALF MARATHON is a road race down the beautiful Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway featuring limestone canyon walls blanketed with coniferous and deciduous trees along Spearfish Creek. Runners begin in Savoy at 7 AM and follow Highway 14A, Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, to the Spearfish City Park. Cost $75 - $90 day prior/at event
*All half marathon racers will receive a participation medal.
*UPDATE: Awards are given to the overall top three (3) male and female winners in the Half Marathon. Age group awards are given to the first place male and female finisher in each age category:12-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
*Everyone registered by June 24 will receive a free race shirt/tank if they selected the requested size when registering.
*The Half Marathon course is a certified course (USATF Certificate SD16003BK). Participants must run on the left side of the road or be DISQUALIFIED.
-Buses will be available to transport runners from the Spearfish City Park to the starting point of the half marathon beginning at 5:30 a.m. on July 12. The last bus will leave at 6:05 a.m. Participants are welcome to be dropped off at the starting point near Savoy. However, traffic can get extremely congested, so we strongly encourage runners to ride the bus.
5K - 7AM START
The 5K starts and ends in the Spearfish City Park. Race starts at 7am. Runners follow the road through the campground and connect with the bike path to the canyon parking lot, then head back down the scenic byway to reconnect with the bike path to end in the park. Cost $40 - $50 day prior/at event

Spectator t-shirts/tanks will be available for purchase online prior to June 24, 2025.
**There may be a limited quantity of shirts for sale during packet pick-up on July 11. Get there early before they run out. (Unisex t-shirts and Womens' razorback tank tops)
**Packet pick-up for 2025 will occur on Friday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Northern Hills Area CASA Office, located at 741 N. 5th Street in Spearfish. If you are unable to pick up your bib/packet during this time, you can get it, beginning at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Spearfish City Park.
The Spearfish Holiday Inn may be offering discounted rooms. Watch for more details in January 2025.
